OBITUARY

Ronald Nelson Foster

9 February , 194012 May , 2019

Ron passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Sunday May 12, at the Comox Valley Seniors Village in Courtenay, BC after a long-fought battle with Parkinson’s and Dementia.

Ron’s care and concern for family and friends stayed with him until the end.

Ron was born to James and Mernie Foster in Westlock Alberta on February 9, 1940. The family moved to Vancouver Island when he was six. As a young boy Ron always wanted to learn to fly which he did through the air cadet program at the Comox Air Base. He then continued to teach young cadets to fly for many years.

Ron enjoyed life to the fullest. He hiked, skied, flew, prospected, boated, fished, played hockey and travelled. He refereed minor hockey, volunteered for C.B.C. TV Association and the Gold River Fire Department. Ron and Bev were married in 1966 and moved to Gold River for work in January 1967. Ron loved his career as a steam engineer for over 35 years and they made many happy memories being with friends and raising Lisa in the new “young people’s” town.

They retired to Ron’s hometown of Courtenay in 1999 - more memories, new friends and grandchildren arriving. With the help of his best friend, Mike O’Neill, Ron regularly attended the weekly Coffee Klatch at the Filberg Centre right up to the end of his life.

Above all, Ron treasured his family the most. He will be dearly missed by his wife Bev, his daughter Lisa Rutten, son in law Marc, grandsons Nathan and Matthew, his sister Joyce Fenton and brothers and sister in law, many nieces, nephews and friends.

A warm thank you to Dr. Glenn Kisman and the excellent nurses and care-aids that cared for him over this past year.

A donation to YANA, Courtenay in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.
