It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roy Charles Trimmer, loving husband, father and grandfather who passed away on March 14th, 2025, at the age of 94, just 8 days shy of his 95th birthday. Roy was born in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England on March 22nd in 1930. His family moved to London when Roy was a young boy. He had vivid memories of the London Blitz, in particular, of trying to complete his paper route on a daily basis in the aftermath of the bombing. Roy attended Technical College in London and graduated with a diploma in building. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the British forces. He then signed up with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Roy and Vivienne (nee Newstead) had a whirlwind weeklong courtship in London, England. He managed to convince her to join him in Toronto where they were married on March 28th, 1959. They shared many adventures in Canada, a country which they both loved. Roy was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and mushroom picking. Roy loved growing, harvesting and eating the produce from the extensive vegetable garden he and Vivienne kept for so many years. He loved single malt Scotch (hold the peat, if you please) or a creditable blend (looking at you, Johnnie Walker Blue). He was a huge fan of the Beatles, but, in his later years, he gravitated more towards the classical realm, especially Bach and Mozart. Roy also enjoyed laughing at people who made the mistake of taking themselves too seriously. He had a low tolerance for pompousness and arrogance of any kind. Roy loved GOT (except the final season), LOTR, and was a big fan of the novels of Jane Austen. Above all, he loved his family. Roy is survived by his beloved wife Vivienne, his children, Graham (Lisa), Karen-Marie (Les), and John (Andrea), and four grandchildren, Keegan, Alexandra, Anika and Justin. Roy is also survived by his sister Joan (Barry). Roy was pre-deceased by his brother Derek (Alena). At Roy’s request, there will be no memorial service. His family will take his ashes on one last walk in the woods he knew and loved and scatter them there. The family gives thanks to the Aitken Community Hospice at Ocean Front Village who ensured that his passing was as comfortable as possible. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Comox Valley Hospice Society.
