We want to thank all the wonderful staff that worked with our family and gave our Dad comfort. Evergreen Seniors home was beyond supportive of both our Father and our Family and made this incredibly difficult journey with us. We feel blessed and grateful for the Love and compassion that was given to my Dad at Evergreens and to our family as well.
Our Dad was living with Alzheimer’s disease which he was diagnosed with shortly after my Mom passed away almost 11 years ago. I am glad that he is now at peace and reunited with our my Mom, Sweet Sharon Mareck.
Dad was born in Provost, Alberta to Alois and Lucinia Mareck. He had 4 siblings Donnie, Louise, Shirley and Susan. Uncle Donnie is not with us and went way too early and we know the brothers will be reunited in heaven. We are also very grateful that his sisters Louise and Susan and his favourite nephew Warren were able to come and visit. This brought him great joy in his last days.
Dad was a Mechanical Engineer and there is literally nothing he could not fix or build. He had an amazing career at John Deere and he always inspired all the younger generation that came along the way. He retired from John Deere (I think 3 times) they kept calling him back. Going through his things I found his John Deere service card with him in his wallet. This was important to him and we want to honour this, it was not a surprise to find this card in his wallet. It made me smile! 😊 He was hired by John Deere three days after graduation He literally went from a broom boy to Service Manager Canada.
Dad also did a lot of volunteering – Country Heritage Museum, Friends of John Deere, Green Machines History and Heritage. He restored Farm machinery and was involved in educational programs “Simple Machines.” They honoured him with a Volunteer of the Year award and of course a lifetime membership.
Wayne was married to the most amazing angelic woman, our Mother Sharon Mareck, they met at university and shared 50 wonderful years together before my Mother left this world too early from her rare autoimmune disorder idiopathic myelofibrosis. Both Mom and Dad will be missed by many and leave behind daughters Barb and Nancy, sons Michael and Brian Mareck, as well as grandkids Hana and Jordan and so many other people that love them. Our home was always open to all our friends and we are grateful for all of our wonderful friends throughout this journey. If the Mareck house could talk! Lol We will never forget your help in our time of need and are beyond Grateful for you all.
We recently moved our Dad to Evergreens Senior Home in Campbell River. My Sister Barb and Julie were pivotal in making this happen, but it was a hard transition. I am very grateful to Julie Thomas for her compassion, caring and Love for my Dad over the years. He would not have been able to stay at his home for as long as he did if it were not for you. It is rare that one finds Love twice in their life. I know my Dad’s great Love is my Mom Sharon and Julie her husband Harold but to get to love again is a blessing
Dad was such a brilliant man and we will try to honour him in multiple ways. There will be a mass held in Campbell River for him October 25th at St. Patrick’s Church, a mass on his Birthday, January 21st, 2026 at Holy Rosary Church in Burlington, Ontario and 2 separate masses held at Christ the King Church in Courtenay, BC on October 29th at 9am and November 10 at 9am. Christ the King Church will be livestreaming their services on the church's youtube.
The Family thanks everyone for all their Love and Support.
