It is with profound sadness that the family of Henrikas Butkevicius announces his passing on December 31, 2018 in his 97th year, surrounded by his loved ones. Beloved husband of Zofia (d. 2010). Dearest father of Nijole Cherkas (Andrew) and Rita Bobyk (Orest). Most loving Granddad to Pauline (Andrew), Joseph (Sarah), Chris (Candice), Daniel, Alexander (Danielle) and Steven. Cherished Great Granddad to Cathy, Bryan, Aiden, Liam, Abigail and Annabell. Fondly remembered by his extended family in Lithuania. Dad was a man of incredible faith, intellect, creativity and tireless work ethic. He was at his happiest breaking the lake's morning stillness with the cast of a fishing line, enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren at the cottages, tending to his gardens or quietly creating another exquisite wood carving in his workshop. Dad's immeasurable kindness, generosity and love for his family and friends will forever remain in our hearts. May he rest in peace in God's mercy and loving embrace. Visitation to commence Friday January 4, 2019 from 2-4 & 6-8 at Courtice Funeral Chapel (1587 Hwy #2, Courtice). Prayers to begin at 7 P.M. A mass of Christian burial will take place Saturday January 5, 2019 at 11 A.M. Lithuanian Martryr’s Catholic Church, Mississauga (2185 Stavebank Rd, Mississauga). Online condolences may be made at www.courticefuneralchapel.com. In memory, donations may be made to Lithuanian Martyrs Catholic Church.

Dear Nijole and Rita:
First of all, please accept my most sincere sympathies on the passing of your wonderful father. I don't know if you will remember me or not, but I used to live across the creek from you on Gibb St. in Oshawa, and we used to play together as children. I had 8 sisters and brothers, so we were very hard to forget!! But I remember going over to your house and playing in your lovely backyard, skipping and playing with the rabbits in the cages. I recall your mom and dad very vividly, and they both were always very nice with me, and always smiling! That was well over 50 years ago, but when you have childhood memories that make you smile, you never forget them. I have often wondered over the years where you were living, although Nijole, I know you had moved to Elliott Lake. I am still married to Doug, my husband of nearly 50 years, and have 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren. My mom and dad passed some years ago now, and I still miss them every day. I am really sorry about your dad, but you were very lucky to have had him all these years. It still does not make things any easier, that is for sure. If you would ever like to contact me, I am at905-432-8123 in Oshawa. I could not make it to the funeral home today, as it is my grandsons 15th birthday, and we had plans made today. Nevertheless, I am thinking about you, and praying you get through this very rough time. I hope to hear from you whenever you have a moment. Sincerely, Lynda (Proctor) Laverty.xx
