It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Allen Cook (née McCaldin) on June 28, 2026, at Glen Hill Terrace in Whitby, Ontario. Margaret was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1929 and raised in Leicester, England. After the war, she bravely immigrated to Canada at 19 years old.
Margaret is survived by her four daughters, Janet Miller, Karen Leaning, Linda Millage and Marilyn Cook-Borges, her nine beloved grandchildren and twelve cherished great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy. She is also survived by her sister, Marion Hartill, and her son-in-law, George Borges. Margaret is predeceased by her beloved husband Edward ("Ted") Cook, her sister Janet Roberts, and her son-in-law David Leaning.
Margaret was a strong, independent and wise woman who loved to golf and spend time in her garden. She was an avid reader, a talented pianist and a gifted artist. She was a progressive thinker, ahead of her time, and an inspirational role model to her four daughters. Her greatest pleasure, and her lasting legacy, was the family she loved so deeply. She will be greatly missed.
Thanks to the staff at Glen Hill Terrace, 3 North, for their patience and kindness while taking care of our mother and her family.
A Celebration of Margaret’s Life will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 1:30 pm at Courtice Funeral Chapel, 1587 Durham Regional Hwy 2, Courtice, ON L1E 2R7. Refreshments to follow.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice would be most welcome.
