

Betty Ann Brock, born on December 8, 1956, in Bogalusa, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at her home in Covington, Louisiana, on December 30, 2024, at the age of 68. In her early years, she was a member of Little Union Baptist Churh, Mount Hermon, La. and later became a member of Greater Starlight Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Mallery Callhan II. Betty was a faithful choir member.
Betty was the beloved daughter of Mary (Martin) Brock and William H. Brock. She was a devoted mother to Deidre Marie Young and Clarence Leonard Young, Jr., and a cherished "Step mom" to Shawnette Tucker, Cleotis Williams, Jazmine Holmes, and Paris Holmes. She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren Dana Markayla Williams, Bianca Tucker, Karleeah Williams, Sincere Smalls, Aksel Cummings, A'hava Williams, London Mckinnon and great-grandchildren Acery Marlai Bradley, Asen Jamal Bradley, Averi Marie Bradley, and Alton Jamal Bradley. She was a wonderful Godmother to Travis (Joann) Watson. Betty is survived by her siblings Hynetia Watson of Mt. Hermon, LA; William Brock, Jr. of Mt. Hermon, LA; Francis Magee (Lenarver) of Mt. Hermon, LA; Milton Brock (Daisann) of Chicago, IL; and Barbara Brock of Mt. Hermon, LA. She was predeceased by her siblings Jesse Magee, Boyd Lee Brock, Marynell Brown and goddaughter Deloris Denise (Lil Bit) Harrison.
Betty’s life was defined by her hard work and passion for helping others. She made history as the first Black-owned food truck operator "Yum Yum Gimme Sum" in Covington, La. This business endeavor allowed Betty to employ young people giving them a chance to learn how to run a business and to take pride in entrepreneurship. She also took immense pride in her business ventures. Her community involvement extended to being an active member of the Covington Business Association and the Krewe of Eve, where she was honored as the first Black Royal Maid. She also enjoyed being a member of St. John Fools of Misrule in Covington and participating in other Mardi Gras festivities and attending Zulu events and parades.
Among her proudest memories were traveling to Jamaica with her children, nieces, and nephew—a testament to her love for family adventures. Betty found joy in vacationing with loved ones and riding Mardi Gras floats.
Betty’s laughter was contagious when surrounded by family and friends. Her legacy of love and dedication will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at Greater Starlight Baptist Church on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM with visitation at the church beginning at 9:00 AM.
Burial will follow the services in Little Union Cemetery, Mt. Hermon, LA under the direction and care of Grace Funeral Home.
