Elizabeth “Beth” Ann Brown Hedrick stepped into eternal life on May 29, 2022 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was blessed with 49 years of marriage to her beloved husband and high school sweetheart, Jerome “Jerry” Hedrick. She leaves behind cherished memories to her husband Jerry, two sons Reid (Lisa) and Ryan (Terri) Hedrick and her daughter Molly Rasoulian (Kassim). Beth adored her grandchildren and they absolutely treasured her and the time they spent together. Payton,
Delaney, Ryne and Nolan Hedrick and Rainey, Rex and Eli Rasoulian will sorely miss their “Mere”.
Beth is preceded in death by her parents W. Rainey Brown III and Betty Haase Brown, her younger brother Theodore “Teddy” Brown and her grandparents G. Gernon and Kathryn Egan Brown and Boris Conrad and Della Trosclair Haase.
Beth was deeply loved by her siblings Cathy Brown LaGaccia, Sue Ellen Brown Lewis, Alison Brown James (Mark) and brother William Rainey “Billy” Brown IV (Fran). Beth was dear to her in-laws Msgr. Kenneth Hedrick, Matthew Hedrick (Sally), Gregory Hedrick (Mary) and Deirdre “Dee” Hedrick Collura (deceased). She held her godchildren near and dear to her heart, Corinne Butler, Charlotte Dawson, Blanche Hedrick and John Rainey James. Additionally, she will be sadly missed by many
loving relatives and friends. Through the years, Beth maintained many dear and enduring friendships.
Beth was born in New Orleans on May 22, 1952. She grew up in Lakeview at a time when life was carefree. She was blessed with a large and loving family. Everyone was welcome at the Brown home and it was frequented by many of Beth’s extended family and friends. This was the same atmosphere that Beth created at her and Jerry’s home when their children were growing up. Their door was always open.
Beth was a proud graduate of Mount Carmel Academy and L.S.U. New Orleans where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree. She taught for several years at various high schools in Jefferson Parish. Beth’s career path segued from teaching to retail (family business, The Calico Kid) to office management (20 years with R. Daniel Jacob, M.D.). Her tenacious work ethic, thoroughness, reliability, integrity, kindness and compassion led to her next work path. She became a member of the Beta Gamma chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha whose primary mission is to help raise funds for the children of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Beth worked many tireless hours on the annual Dream Home campaign, along with other St. Jude events even through her illness.
Beth was a kind, sweet person who was quick to laugh and put everyone at ease. She brought out the best in those who were fortunate enough to encounter her. One of Beth’s outstanding virtues was generosity which permeated all aspects of her life. Beth’s faith was central and she had a strong prayer life. When she was diagnosed with a cancer that had a very poor prognosis, she immediately put all of her faith and trust in God – imploring Him for the grace she would need to accept her terminal findings. Beth knew she needed God’s assistance to accept His Divine Providence as well as for Jerry, her children and grandchildren. Her attitude was phenomenal and truly exemplary of someone who had
surrendered to God’s will with the help of His amazing grace.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of her life at St. Anselm Catholic Church, 306 St. Mary Street, Madisonville, LA on Monday, June 6, 2022. Visitation will begin at 1pm with a funeral Mass following at 3pm.
Masses and prayers for the repose of Beth’s soul are preferred. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Beth’s name at stjude.org or mail to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
