Kathleen Whitfield Pratt

Kathleen Whitfield Pratt, born November 16, 1943, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side, on April 2, 2025. She was a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose warmth and compassion touched the lives of many.

Kathleen, the eldest of six siblings, was preceded in death by her sister, Anne Whitfield, her brother Wesley Thomas Whitfield, and her parents, Colonel Joe Mangham Whitfield and Kathleen Rolleigh Whitfield. She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Pratt DePodesta and husband Art of Covington, LA, and cherished grandson Sylar DePodesta, her brothers Joe Whitfield, Jr. of Roanoke, VA, Louis Wesley Whitfield of New Windsor, MD, and sister Susan Whitfield McCabe and husband LTC Curt of Falls Church, VA, beloved niece Megan Kathleen McCabe, Fairfax, VA, and sister-in-law Roxana Whitfield of Centreville, VA.

Kathleen dedicated nearly 30 years of her professional life to the Department of Defense at the Pentagon. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Northeast Louisiana State College in Monroe, LA, and began her career as a teacher in the New Orleans area before moving to Falls Church, VA. She spent her last 15 years as a resident of Mandeville, LA near family. Her heart always remained in New Orleans, where she embraced the vibrant culture and cuisine.

In her spare time, Kathleen found joy in studying genealogy, caring for her plants, and enjoying a glass of wine. She will be fondly remembered for her nurturing spirit, love of family, and the beautiful memories she created with those around her.

A celebration of Kathleen’s life will be held at a later date in Monroe, LA.
