

Scott Richard Nuebel, age 73, of Covington, LA passed away after a short battle with cancer on Monday, May 27, 2024. He was born on September 28, 1950 in Tacoma, WA to Lillian Young Nuebel and Leo Paul Nuebel.
At nine months old, his family relocated to Louisiana, where he grew up in Gentilly Woods. He attended St. Gabriel School and Cor Jesu High School c/o 1969, excelling in basketball and playing the tuba in the band.
He met the love of his life, Kathleen Miceli, at UNO. They married in 1973 and raised their three children in Airline Park in Metairie. Scott worked as an Outside Plant Engineer starting at South Central Bell and retiring from AT&T. He was responsible for the phone lines to the riverbank at the 1984 World’s Fair and the Superdome, and he designed the double ring of fiber around New Orleans.
He was a man of deep faith and service, actively volunteering at St. Mary Magdalen in the Men’s Club, Parish Council, Parents’ Club and Fair Committee. He received the Order of St. Louis award for his service while at St. Mary Magdalen. In 2003, when Scott and Kathy moved to Covington, he participated at St. Anselm Church in the Parish Council and the Knights of Columbus where he received 4th Degree status and was a Grand Knight. He was a member of the Fish Fry Committee and he and Kathy started the St. Anselm Jewel of Madisonville Gala. Scott was known for his generous spirit, his servant leadership, and love for his family.
Scott is survived by his beloved wife of 50 1/2 years, Kathleen Miceli Nuebel; his children Chris Nuebel (Jacqueline Atwood), Katie Nuebel Guasco (Robert Guasco, Jr.) and Elizabeth Nuebel Perry (Katie Perry); and grandchildren Henry Nuebel, Grace Guasco, Max Guasco, Makynslie Perry and Camdyn Perry. He is also survived by his brothers, Douglas Nuebel (Connie) and Brian Nuebel (Lynn) and many nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and dear friends. Above all, Scott enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his five grandchildren.
Scott is preceded in death by his parents Lillian Young Nuebel and Leo Paul Nuebel; his sister, Nancy Nuebel Modica and her husband Salvador Modica; and his brother, Grant Nuebel.
Family and friends are invited to visit with the family on Monday, June 3, 2024, at St. Anselm Catholic Church, 306 St. Mary Street Madisonville, LA 70447 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. The Holy Rosary will be recited by the Knights of Columbus beginning at 11:30 followed by Words of Remembrance. A Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Rev. Msgr. Frank Giroir and Rev. David Doyle, will follow beginning at Noon. After Mass, lunch will be served in the Weseman Center at St. Anselm.
Scott loved fishing shirts (although he did not fish). He called them his retirement shirts and most of them were in bright colors. Please feel free to wear bright spring colors to the service in honor of Scott.
Burial will take place privately at a later date.
