Virgie Caroline Curtis

Virgie Caroline Curtis, age 84 of Mandeville, LA passed away on August 4, 2024. She was born on January 29, 1940, in Lufkin, TX to Ruby and Frederick Fenley.

Virgie is survived by her beloved children Ricky Ray Curtis (Doreen Harvey Curtis) of Lafayette, LA, Norman Wayne Curtis of Arnaudville, LA , Freddy Arnett Curtis (Jolene Robicheaux Curtis) of Lafayette, LA, Amy Curtis Myers (Roger Glen Shepherd) of New Iberia, LA, and Jennifer Lynn Monnin of Mandeville, LA; seven grandchildren Matthew Ray Curtis, Travis Frederick Curtis, Courtney Anne Curtis, Blake Joseph Curtis, Hunter Ray Myers, Cody Ray-Lynn Duronslet and Lance Austin Duronslet and four great-grandchildren; Kaiden L Myers, Valerie Rose Curtis, John Ray Curtis and William Roe Curtis. She is also survived by her sister Paula Diane McManus (Phillip Bo McManus) and former husband Norman Ray Curtis.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frederick Foch Fenley, Ruby May Fenley; two brothers Jerry Glen Fenley and Fred Fenley and her son-in-law Jeffrey Lynn Duronslet.

Virgie (Carolyn) was a native of Lufkin, TX and resident of the Lafayette, LA area for a great part of her life. She was a devoted wife, a dedicated mother, a fantastic cook, and a helpful friend to all neighbors. She attended LSUE to become an LPN. She was a faithful and attentive nurse at Charity Hospital in New Orleans.

She moved to Picayune, MS where she received a Master Gardener Degree and enjoyed putting that education into her gardening, farming, and raising chickens. She embraced a country style of life. She continued her passion for gardening as she moved to her final residence in Mandeville, LA.

The family would like to recognize and thank Grace Funeral Home, Dignity Memorial, the hospice team of Traditions Health and the sitting services of Mrs. Rose. The combined services provided kindness, compassion, dignity and care.

Virgie (Carolyn) would want us to plant a garden of any kind or size in her memory.
