It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and sister, Gloria, who left us on February 12, 2025, at the age of 76. Gloria was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
Born on December 26, 1948, in the family’s hotel in Baggs, Wyoming, Gloria was the daughter of Maggie and Ernest Romero. Her arrival, just a day after Christmas, was a special blessing for the family and a reflection of the warmth and hospitality that defined her character. She grew up in the close-knit community of Baggs, within the Little Snake River Valley, where she developed lifelong friendships and a deep love for the beauty of the land. Gloria was known for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for anyone who had the pleasure of being part of her life. Her commitment to being kind and welcoming to others and her deep sense of community, shaped everything she did throughout her lifetime.
Gloria married Tim Slevin and together they had three beautiful daughters: Melanie, Jenny, and Brandi. She was a devoted and loving mother whose family was the center of her world. She later met Butch Hauger and spent the last 20 years making memories with him.
Gloria had a zest for life that shone in everything she did. She loved gardening, creating beautiful spaces filled with flowers and plants. Cooking was another of her desires, and she delighted in preparing delicious meals for her family, especially her famous Lonnie’s steaks. Gloria had a deep love for music, especially Mexican music, which she enjoyed while preparing for trips with her sisters and her girls to Santa Fe for the Fiestas. She also had a deep fondness for Elvis Presley’s music, and his songs were always playing when she was at home. Gloria found joy in dancing, shopping with her girls, and riding the RZR, embracing adventure and making memories with those she loved.
Her best friends were her sisters, Elaine and Charlene, and her baby brother, Duane. Together, they shared countless memories and supported one another through all of life’s joys and challenges. Their bond was one of the greatest gifts in her life, and the love they shared will be carried on in their hearts.
She is survived by her partner, Butch Hauger; her children: Melanie Lee (Wes), Jenny Palm (Scott), Brandi Carder (Jason); and her grandchildren: Brooke Weeldreyer (Sam), Skyler Lee (Brandee), Candace Carder, Grayson Lee, Kendall Palm (Marissa), Marissa Leach (Drew), Audryanna (Gerritz), Brayden Palm, Austyn Carder (Emma), Jensen Palm (Anna). Gloria was also a proud great-grandmother to Trey, Slevin, Lenox, and Wilder Weeldreyer; Blakey and Bridger Palm; and Asher Leach. She is also survived by her siblings, Charlene Butler (Rowe) and Elaine Jeannerett (Dick), Aunt Flora Trejo, Uncle Edjill Handshoe, many of her cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maggie and Ernest Romero; her grandparents, Sophia and Julian Vigil; her brother, Duane Romero; her Uncle Benny and Aunt Vitalia Vigil, Aunt Lucy Handshoe, Uncle Max Trejo, and her Cousin Maxine Stevens.
A viewing for family and friends will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, February 17, 2025, at the Our Lady of the Sage Catholic Church in Baggs. A rosary will follow. A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 18th, at 11:00 AM at the Valley Community Center in Baggs, Wyoming. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and share memories of Gloria. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of the Sage Catholic Church or The Walk for Life of Baggs, Wyoming in her memory.
Though she is no longer with us, Gloria’s spirit and the love she gave so freely will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
