Phyllis attended elementary school in Milwaukee before the family moved, in 1943, to Craig, Colorado. She graduated from Moffat County High School in May of 1949 and married Vincent W. Bingham on June 18, 1949. To this union 4 children were born; William, Susan, Rose Marie and Daniel.
When her children were young, Phyllis taught accordion lessons to many Moffat County students to supplement the household income. She also worked at a local dress shop, The West Theater, Moffat County State Bank and Craig Drug throughout the years. When her children were older Phyllis and Vince became foster parents and over the span of 7 years, they took in and cared for 25 foster children, some who have stayed in touch with her through the years.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, art and crafts, writing memoirs (which with the help of a dear friend Nancy was published into a book), historic research, playing cards and socializing. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, taught 4-H, taught catechism, and was a room mother and band parent for all the kids. She loved meeting new people and became instant friends with everyone she ever met.
After she was widowed Phyllis started a project of researching old newspapers at the library compiling an array of volumes of Moffat County and surrounding area obituaries from the late 1800s to just a few years ago which now can be found at both the Moffat County Library and The Museum of Northwest Colorado. She was active with the Craig Senior Social Center playing cards, attending functions and traveling when she could.
When she could no longer live in the house Vince and she had built together, she moved to The Haven Assisted Living Center in Hayden, Colorado until her passing.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her loving husband Vince, her parents Bill and Sue Spetter, her brother Dale Spetter, her granddaughter Laura Gonzales, her grandson Michael Wayne Bingham and her son-in-law Rob Syvertson.
She is survived by her son Bill (Rose) and their children (Billy (Judy) Bingham, Erick (Chrystal) Bingham, Angel Bingham, Emilio Bingham, Alex Bingham and Mark Bingham; daughter Suz Syvertson and her children Nick Syvertson and Kelley (Daniel) Kelly; daughter Rose Marie (Steve) Henrich and son Dan (Lynn) Bingham and their children Teresa (Linda) Bingham and Christina (Jordan) Steele and goddaughter Susie (Pat) Herrera. She is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild. She also had numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a huge thank you to the staff at The Haven Assisted Living Center, NW Colorado Home Health, Clem Mascarenes with the Moffat County Senior Bus, and the staff at the Museum of NW Colorado and the staff at the Moffat Count Library. Memorial donations can be given to any of the above organizations or a charity of your choice in care of Grant Mortuary. A special thanks, also, to Jesse and staff of Grant Mortuary and Father John and St. Michael parish for their kindness and compassion during this difficult time.
