Veda Louise Dunstan Wyman, age 97, passed away at the Doak Walker house at Casey’s Pond in Steamboat Springs on Friday, January 8, 2021. She was born March 22, 1923 in Hanford California to Frances and Thomas Harvey Dunstan. Veda was the youngest of their four children. The family lived in Fresno, California until Veda was five, at which time the family moved to Salinas, California.
It was at Salinas Junior High School that Veda was able to enjoy and participate in the Junior Orchestra as 1st chair, 2nd violin and in a violin octet. After Veda graduated from Junior High in 1937, the family moved to Pagoda, Colorado to ranch. Veda attended Craig High School and graduated in 194l. She was in the girl' s Double Trio Chorus, mixed chorus and Glee Club.
Veda married Harvey Arthur Wyman on June 29, I941. They were involved in sheep and registered Black Angus ranching and raising their three children.
Living on the ranch created a great opportunity for Veda to pursue her interests in gardening, bird watching and studying all the different wild flowers. Veda was an active member of the Hayden Garden Club for many years. When all the children were raised, she accompanied Harvey every day, helping with the ranch.
Her unending quest for knowledge led Veda to complete various college courses over the years at CNCC. Her courses were diversified and included everything from a medical course to a citizen' s police academy course. Veda was a prolific reader and an avid crossword puzzle buff. She was involved in Craig book clubs for 30 years. Along with her extensive knowledge on many topics, she was a "walking dictionary' with a mastery of the English language and grammar.
Music in the form of playing the piano or accordion and dancing was a favorite past time. These times reminded her of childhood evenings when her Dad would play the violin and her mother the piano.
She enjoyed working as a volunteer at The Memorial Hospital in medical records and in the lab, clocking over 900 hours in the 60s. She recommenced her volunteer work in the gift shop until retiring in 2009.
Participating in various bridge clubs kept her mind alert. She enjoyed aqua-aerobics and walking to keep physically fit.
In the past, she was involved in Eastern Stars, Craig Civic Club, Republican Women' s Group, Last Frontier (secretary/treasurer), Ladies Recreation Group (bowling/ice skating), and First Congregation Church study groups and social groups.
Preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Linn, her husband, Harvey A. Wyman, and daughters, Harva Lou Buchanan and Betty Ann (Gary) Unruh, Veda is survived by her son Steven (Sharon), 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
A private family graveside will be held at Craig Cemetery.
