John Edward King, 82, of Saint Albans, went home to be with the Lord and receive his eternal reward on March 31, 2017. John was a devout Christian and a member of Abney Street Church of God. He was always willing and ready to witness and share his faith with anyone willing to listen. He spent several years winning lost souls to Christ in WV and surrounding states, through Live Ministries. John graduated from Hurricane High School in 1953, and later West Virginia State College. He was a retired architect of thirty plus years, and left his mark on buildings throughout West Virginia. John was a decorated Army veteran who served his country in Vietnam, Germany and stateside, as an Army Captain. One of his greatest loves was his family, as husband, father and grandpa. He was a devoted husband of fifty-seven years, to his wife, Carol, and father to his "pride and joy" as he would say, his daughter, Susie. He was a doting grandpa and thought the sun rose and set on his two grandchildren, Audra Watts "grandpa's grandbaby" and Isaac Watts "grandpa's grandson." John was an avid WVU Mountaineer fan, and loved to share stories of some of the old greats. He had a vast collection of WVU football games of the past. He was loved by many and will be truly missed. John is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his daughter, Susie King-Watts (Howie) of Teays Valley; his grandchildren, Audra Watts and Isaac Watts of Teays Valley; step-grandchildren, Lindsey Wick (Eric) of Bancroft and Brittany Sulzener (Jake) of Lexington, Ky.; and his sister, Carolyn Rodgers of Saint Albans. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Pearl King of Hurricane; and sister, Barbara Turley of Cincinnati, Ohio. Celebration of John's life will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 4, at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home with Rev. Jack A. C. Lawrence and Associate Pastor Steve Hewitt officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by St. Albans VFW Post 6418 and American Legion Post 73. Gathering of family and friends will be 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 3, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Abney Street Church of God. The family would like to thank the kind employees of Fresenius Kidney Care in Dunbar for the kind and compassionate care John received over the last two and a half years.
