

Margaret “Peggy” Suzanne (Fisher) Ong, 76 of Charleston, WV, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 12, 2024 at the Hubbard Hospice House. She was born July 26, 1947 to the late, John Lynn Fisher and Mary Margaret (Pollitt) Fisher. Peggy is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Lynn (Ong) Sutherland and grandchildren, Eric Reese Sutherland and Kailey Brooke Sutherland, all of St. Albans, WV; brother, Dr. Stephen Lynn Fisher (Nancy Garretson) of Emory VA; and a host of close friends she thought of as family.
Peggy was a lifelong resident of Charleston, graduating from Charleston High School in 1965. She attended college at Marshall University where she joined the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in 1967. She dedicated most of her career to state government where she served 20+ years as Assistant to the Clerk for the WV House of Delegates before leaving to work for DuPont Government Affairs. She returned to the Capitol in 2005 as Personal Assistant to the Governor for then governor, Joe Manchin, III.
Peggy was a kind and generous person with a wonderful sense of humor. She brought joy and laughter to so many people. She deeply loved her family and friends and enjoyed shopping, vacationing at the beach and spending time at home with her two cats, Sonny and Marley.
In keeping with Peggy’s wishes, her body was cremated. Tyler Mountain funeral home has been entrusted with her cremation.
A gathering of family and friends and a Celebration of Peggy’s life will be held on June 28, 2024 4pm-6pm at the Women’s Club of Charleston, 1600 Virginia Street East, Charleston. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Peggy’s memory to the Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, WV 25311.
