Mrs. Merle George

Frieda Merle George,93, of Cross Lanes, passed away on November 26, 2023. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Ralph Thomas George, her son Steven Ray George and her four siblings.

She is survived by her children Debbie Shadowen (David) of Charleston, Michael George (Anita) of Harrisville, Beverly Stalnaker (David) of Cross Lanes and Libby Workman (Chuck) of Nitro, WV. She is also survived by her special friend and caregiver Dani Hoptry (Jon), special “son” Bob Garnett (Sue) and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She loved her children, but she especially loved her 9 grandchildren and her 16 great grandchildren.

Merle was a member of Dunbar First Baptist Church and was also active in many association and state West Virginia Baptist Convention roles serving as clerk of the Kanawha Valley Association and a camp director of 16 years at the West Virginia Baptist Camp at Cowen.

She was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School and Alderson-Broaddus College and was retired from Beneficial Finance.

A celebration of Merle’s life will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 1, 2023, at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, with Pastor David Keeney officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mt. Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

A gathering of family and friends will be from noon until the time of service at the funeral home. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Celebration Villas, Teays Valley and the ER and nursing staff at CAMC Teays Valley for their great care and concern.
