

Paula Elizabeth Woods Edward, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and educator, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on April 6, 1963, Paula lived a life filled with love, determination, and joy, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Paula was the daughter of Helen Schoolcraft Starcher and Paul V Woods. She is preceded in death by her loving parents and her grandparents, C.O. Woods and Mae Vola Estep Woods. Paula is survived by her caring husband, David, and by her eight beloved children: Paul, Silvia, Elizabeth, Luke, Peter, Ethan, Bethany, & Sarabeth. She is also survived by her loving daughter-in-laws Emily Edward and Meryl Jaskowski, her loyal sister Ellen Woods Ramey, her dedicated adopted daughter Laura McCabe, and her dogs Nellie, Rain, & Minnie.
Paula graduated from Nitro High School in 1981. She furthered her education at West Virginia University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education with a Minor in Spanish in 1986. She then went on to receive a Masters in Education from the University of Louisville in 1992.
Paula was a woman of strong will and fierce loyalty, traits that endeared her to many. She was known for her vibrant personality, and she will always be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her children. Paula had a special way of making those around her feel valued and cherished, and her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
In her free time, Paula found joy in being the number one fan of Prince in the entire world, and her love for music and art was evident to anyone who knew her. Paula was also known for her dedication to fitness, a cold or lukewarm diet coke, and General Hospital.
Visitation will be on June 14th, 2025 at the Mausoleum Cemetery at Tyler Mountain Cemetery in Cross Lanes, WV from 2-4 PM, with a brief ceremony afterward with Reverend Janet Harman presiding. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor her memory and have a little fun.
In her final days, Paula received exceptional care from the wonderful staff at Norton Brownsboro hospital. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff as well as Laura, for the compassion and support provided to Paula during her last week of life. Your kindness allowed her to live her life surrounded by love and comfort.
