Vernon Lee Throckmorton, Jr. Was born on December 8th, 1956, and died September 7th, 2023. He is survived by his sister, Faye Jones, nephew Sean Jones, niece Jennifer Jones, great nephews Dresden Jones, Elijah Dyess, and great niece Alex Jones.
Vernon was born in Richmond, Virginia, son of Vernon and Dorothy Throckmorton. At the age of 5 his parents chose to make him a ward of the state of Virginia. He was committed to Lynchburg Training School and Hospital, where he remained until 1996 when he was moved into a group home in Richmond. His sister, Faye, then became his legal guardian and moved him to West Virginia. Vernon had a very difficult and traumatic life, and through it all, he maintained his kind, loving, and pure innocence for life.
Along Vernon's journey, he managed to touch many people's lives in the most positive way. He never complained, unless his sister was late getting him his favorite beverage, Coke.
Vernon loved attending all of the events and meetings at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He loved the gatherings, the assemblies, and conventions. Even though he was unable to read, his love of music and singing was known at the kingdom hall meetings. He was actually the director of each song, and his heart was full of love and joy with every song he orchestrated.
He loved to hug and be hugged, and always had to be reminded when it was time to stop.
Vernon loved his sister, Faye, and she loved him as she would her own children.
Liz, his admirer, would bake him cookies, cakes, and sweets.
He enjoyed his day support program and being with his friends. They would go bowling, play basketball, have pizza parties and go to the movies. When he could no longer go to the day support, he missed it very much. Then as his health declined and he encountered more issues, he became home bound. Vernon was sad that he could no longer participate in activities that he loved so much.
Vernon loved Jehovah, Jesus, his family and friends. He was a true example of unconditional love and the void that he leaves in our hearts, will never be filled. Just the memories remain.
