Bryden was born on October 27, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to Douglas and Mary Louise (Murray) Dow. He was a graduate of The Lawrenceville School, University of Michigan, Detroit College of Law (JD), and New York University (LLM in Taxation).
He moved to Croton in 1963 with his wife Sally and their one month old son Gregory from their garden apartment on New York City’s Upper East Side. He raised his family and remained in their family home in Croton until his passing. He commuted to Manhattan for many years, where he worked in international corporate tax law. He traveled extensively for work, and continued to enjoy travel with his wife Sally throughout the world for many years after his retirement.
His family was active in the American Field Service club in Croton, and he served as host father to two international students who each lived with the family for a year: Marius Guirard from Switzerland and Gurkan Koseoglu from Turkey.
He is survived by his three children, Gregory R. Dow (Kimberley) of Bronxville, New York, Elizabeth Dow of Rye, New York, and William H. Dow (Chika) of Moraga, California, and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Peter and Stuart Dow of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.
Bryden was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Sally Read Dow, as well as his sisters Patricia Dow Ashurkoff and Caroline Dow.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 4th at 3:30pm at Bethel Cemetery Chapel in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution is asked to please direct it to their favorite charity.
