Irene was born on February 3rd,1934 in New York City, New York, to the late Ricardo and Mary Gentilviso. A stylish, warm, and funny Lower East Side lady, Irene travel extensively with her late Aunt Mary Nespole during her 20s. She married her beloved late husband Carmelo DiGiovanni on September 24th 1966 and enjoyed 54 years of marriage until his passing. Irene worked for New York Life insurance company for 37 years, beginning in policy assembly and retiring in public relations. A proud Italian-American, Irene maintained the spirit of Italy with her life in America and kept close ties with family and friends in Sicily.
She is survived by her siblings , Rose Dellosso (husband Peter, deceased) and Richard Gentilviso and wife Ellen and loving children MaryAnn Seelke and her husband Christopher and Steven DiGiovanni and his wife Ruchika and her cherished grandchildren Ariana, Danielle, Nicholas, Simar, Kyra, and Stephanie. Irene is also survived by her dear niece Rose Johnston (Douglas), and nephews Joseph Dellosso (Elisa) and Christopher Gentilviso, as well as grand nieces, nephews, and cousins
Visitation will be held on Monday March 11th, 2024 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Edward F. Carter Funeral Home home, 41 Grand Street, Croton-on-Hudson, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday March 12th at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church in Ossining, New York. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York. A luncheon for family and friends will follow at Taormina's in Peekskill, New York.
