his brother James and his children Judy, Jim (Jill) and his grandchildren Ian, Carrie Miller and
Jonathan Smath.
Jerry began his career in N.Y. City designing and art directing films before he moved to his true
love illustrating and writing children’s books. His first book, “BUT NO ELEPHANTS” was a best seller
and he wrote over forty children’s books and illustrated hundreds of others. In his award winning
career many of his books were inspired by happenings in and around Croton. He was very concerned
about the environment and enjoyed illustrating Tom Chapin’s, Sing A Whale Song.” and designing
stamps for the U.N. to commemorate the largest ever, “Population and Development Conference.”
His illustrations and paintings reflected his wit and exuberance.
A memorial celebration is being planned, Committal is private.
