

Madelyn Hopper, 95, longtime resident of Crystal Lake died Wed, December 14, 2011 at The Springs in Crystal Lake with family by her side. She was born September 20, 1916 in Williams Bay, Wisc. to Edwin and Nanny Holm. She married Kenneth Hopper on September 27, 1941 in Williams Bay, Wisc. She received her business & teaching degree from Whitewater. She was a member of First Congregational Church since 1946 where she was very active and worked as the church secretary for Jim Bidle for 10 years. In her earlier years Madelyn worked as a teacher in Wisconsin and as a substitute teacher at C. L. Central. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards and working in her yard and garden. She loved taking long walks---especially in the Arizona desert where they had a winter home for 20 years. They also took many wonderful trips over the years.
She is survived by her daughters Nancy (Patrick) Fitzgerald, Sue Hopper; grandchildren Heather (Bill) Eschman, Ryan (fiancé Susan Bursack) Fitzgerald, Jamie Korneev, Claire (Brent) Freeman; great-grandchildren Ryan, Kourtnie, Ben Eschman, and Skyler Wilborn. She will be greatly missed by all of her friends and caretakers at the Fountains of Crystal Lake.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister Ruth Curtiss, and brother Kenneth Holm.
A memorial visitation will be from 3 pm until the 4 pm service on Wed, Dec. 28, at First Congregational Church, 461 Pierson St. Crystal Lake. The visitation and service will be in the smaller chapel in the back of the church. The Rev. Arn Schaper will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the church.
