

She was born December 31, 1926 in Aurora to Clarence and Mary (Allan) Barber. She met Joseph Cummings while working at Northern Illinois Gas Company. They were married on August 8, 1953 in Aurora. The couple moved their family to Crystal Lake in 1962. Mary worked for the Crystal Lake Herald, now known as the Northwest Herald for many years. She was also a very active member at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Crystal Lake. In 2007 Mary moved to California to be closer to family.
Mary enjoyed sewing and knitting, as well as painting and doll making. She would also make crafts for the church bazaar. She and her husband would also go bowling together, a fun time both of them enjoyed.
Mary is survived by her children, Janet (Harmon) Manske of Lee’s Summit, MO and Robert (Connie Fleury) Cummings of Cortland; two grandchildren, Ted Manske and Robby Manske; her sister, Janet (Ed) Tuck; and her brother-in-law, Al Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Cummings; her parents; and her sister, Joan Carlson.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30am on Saturday, October 29 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. The service will be at 9:30am.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Montgomery.
