She was born June 14, 1941 in Chicago to Robert and Betty (Quaas) Carroll. On August 29, 1959 she married William Markison.
Mary Ellen enjoyed being a mother and a homemaker. For many years, she maintained a large vegetable garden, and she always loved decorating her home for the changing seasons and the holidays. She was very active in the Senior Services Association, including leading the Pinochle Group, serving as the Activity Director, and writing for the Senior Voice. She also used her writing skills creating a seniors' column for the Northwest Herald. Additionally, Mary Ellen enjoyed watching and discussing Chicago sports, particularly the Cubs, the Bears, and the Bulls.
Mary Ellen is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Markison; her children, Laurel (Philip) Lambert, Timothy (Laura) Markison, Brian (Maridell) Markison, and Steven (Anita) Markison; her grandchildren, Jenna, Victoria, Amy, Patricia, Jennie, Megan, John, Benjamin, Kaila, and Vanessa; her eight great-grandchildren; and her sister, Mary Beth (Garry) Hanson.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
There will be a gathering from 2 to 5pm on Sunday, September 26 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. There will be a memorial service at 4pm.
