Matthew "Matt" Alan Thurow

Matt Thurow passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2026. He was born in Louisville, KY on November 15, 1974. In 1980, when Matt was 6, his family moved to Cary, IL.

He was the devoted son of Bill and Pam and beloved father of Matthew.

Matthew entered our world on February 10, 2011. Matthew was the joy of Matt’s life. His dad taught him strength, truth and to discern right from wrong.

Matt had a positive attitude, a kind heart and a generous compassionate spirit. He was always happy to lend a helping hand.

Matt was an avid sports fan. He delighted in taking Matthew to many Chicago Cubs games, and was a fan of Da Bears and Chicago Bulls during the Michael Jordan era.

He looked forward to the monthly “poker night” with his buddies. His Mom will sadly miss texting back and forth with him every night without fail to see who was better at Wordle that day. He usually was!

Matt graduated from Cary Grove High School in 1992. He loved working with numbers and placed 3rd in the Illinois State Math Competition.

He graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1998 with an Electrical Engineering degree. He was employed by Rimkus as a Forensic Electrical Engineer, before starting out on his own to become an Electrical Engineering Consultant.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill and grandparents. He is survived by his parents, his son, and many cousins. He will be sorely missed.

There will be a visitation from 4 to 7pm on Saturday, May 23 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake. There will be a service at 6pm.
