Teresa M. Hassett

She was born Aug. 20, 1944, in Oak Park, to Edward and Frances (Bouhan) DeBoer. She graduated from St. Edward's High School in Elgin in 1962. She married Ron Paar and had two children, Keith and Lisa. She then remarried Paul "Mike" Hassett on Oct. 16, 1976.

She built a successful career in real estate and retail, but led a rich life outside of work. She and Mike had many close friends with whom they shared wonderful world travel experiences. Teresa loved spending summers on their boat, golfing and dining out with friends. She also enjoyed hosting fabulous dinner parties and sharing great times with all who surrounded her. She was a devoted wife and mother. She touched the lives of many with her generous heart, quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor. Teresa always stood out, classic and beautiful.

She made everyone a better person for having known her. She was a longtime resident of Crystal Lake and member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and the Crystal Lake Country Club.

She is survived by her children, Keith Paar, Andros Islands, Bahamas, Lisa (Jim) Casper, of Homer Glen; her stepchildren, Cristine (Donald) Meyers, Elmhurst, Katie (Alan) Johnson, of Crystal Lake, and Matthew (Diane) Hassett, of Mill Valley, Calif.; her grandchildren, Charlie, Julia, Kaitlan, Emily, Caroline, Abigail, Delaney and Jay; and her siblings, Richard (Helen) DeBoer, Elgin, Dennis (Bonnie) DeBoer, Elgin, Peter DeBoer, Tyler, Texas, Bob (Gail) DeBoer, Lewiston, Wash., and Deb (DeBoer) Scott, of Des Moines, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike; her parents; her grandson, Joseph Casper; and her sister, Maria (DeBoer) Eatinger.

A mass celebration will start at 11 a.m. Nov. 18 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. The reception will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Crystal Lake Country Club, 721 Country Club Rd., Crystal Lake, IL, 60014.

Memorials may be made in Teresa's name, in honor of her husband's battle with Alzheimer's disease, to the Alzheimer's Association , 225 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL, 60601.
