Mr. Billy C. Atkinson

Funeral Services for Mr. Billy C. Atkinson, age 77 of Jones Chapel, will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Jones Chapel Church of Christ, with Terry Michael officiating. Interment will follow at Jones Chapel Cemetery with Military Honors. He will lie-in-state at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Atkinson passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born on March 17, 1934 in Lauderdale County, to the late James Bartley and Lucille Kelly Atkinson. Billy had served in the U.S. Airforce for twenty years, and served at the end of the Korean War and throughout the Vietnam War, before his retirement. He then moved to Jones Chapel in 1971, and went to work 17 more years with the City of Cullman, as a mechanic in the garage.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Hazel Horton and one brother, James Atkinson.

Survivors include his Wife of 58 years – Zettie Weston Atkinson; two 2 – Sons – Billy (Sherry) Atkinson, Jr. and Robert Ray Atkinson; five 5 – Grandchildren – Tai (Mark) Penn, Caleb Atkinson, Holly Atkinson, Sunny (Matt) Troxler, and Hunter (Kelsee) Atkinson; four 4 – Great-Grandchildren – Weston Penn, Anna Grace Penn, Landon Leslie and Ethan Atkinson; two 2 – Sisters – Autry (Dudley) Kilpatrick and Ann (J.M.) Baskins; three 3 – Brothers – Ray Atkinson, Paul Atkinson and Butch (Martha) Atkinson;

The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
