
George Washington Hood, 87, of the Baldwin Community, was called home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 1, 2017. He was born to John and Mary Hood, April 4, 1929 in Winston County, Alabama. George proudly served in the United States Army and worked in the automotive industry in Michigan before returning to Cullman. He worked at Cullman Product for 33 years. After retiring from Cullman Products, he worked as a guard at Nicholson File for 15 years. He recently received his 50 year service pin from the Masonic Lodge in Cullman. George enjoyed his career as well as working in the yard, watching sports, hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed his family and friends. George was a member of Seventh Street Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 4, at Seventh Street Baptist Church, at 2:00 PM. He will lie in state from 1 until 2. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 Monday night at Moss Service Funeral Home. Reverend’s Eric Martin, Kerry Cleghorn and Parker Allen will officiate. Pallbearers will be the grandsons. Interment will be in Cullman City Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Pierce Hood, daughters: Nancy Pierce (Jim) Mermis, Lana Hood (Terry) Slaten, sons: Douglas (Vicki) Pierce, Rodney (Patricia) Hood, grandchildren: Susan Pierce (Van) Cone, Matthew Pierce, Matthew Reid, Mundi McCormick, Zachary Mermis, Samuel Mermis, Augustus Slaten, Ryan Hood, Dakota Hood, 2 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
