Funeral services for Mrs. Gladys Hawk Jordan, age 97 of the Trimble community, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 in the Moss-Service Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Shedd Cemetery, with Rev Delbert Freeman and Rev. Gary Johnson officiating.
Mrs. Jordan passed away at her home on Friday, February 18, 2011. She was born on October 21, 1913 in Marshall County near Arab to the late John and Edna Stone Hawk. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband C.V. (Dick) Jordan; one brother Horace Hawk and one sister, Mary Poorman.
Mrs. Jordan attended Jacksonville State Teachers College. She was a teacher in Cullman County schools, with the old Trimble three room school house as her last teaching assignment. She was a homemaker and after her son finished high school, worked at Skipper and Edison’s Men’s Store until the store was destroyed by fire. Anyone buying a suit during this period, probably had Mrs. Jordan help match ties and shirts.
She was a loyal member of Sharon Grove United Methodist Church for many years, serving as a Sunday school teacher, well into her eighties.
Survivors include her Son – Hayden Jordan; two Granddaughters – Jennifer (John) Miller and Emily (Danny) MacDonald; five Great-Grandchildren – Jordan and Jesika Miller, Katie, Grace and Eli MacDonald. She is also survived by several Neices and Nephews. Mrs. Janice Bates was a loving and helpful friend to Mrs. Jordan for many years; and Mrs. Anna Whitlock was a greatly appreciated friend and caregiver during her last months of life. The family would like to give thanks for the care provided by Hospice of Cullman County.
The family will receive friends here at the funeral home on Monday, February 21, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Herschel and Dennis Jordan, Danny Short, Wayne Hawk, Bob Waldrip and Ben Parks.
