

Charles Ernest Nicholls, age 94, of Culpeper, VA, passed away at Culpeper Regional Hospital Sunday, February 17, 2013. He was born September 27, 1918, to Ernest C. Nicholls and Bernice Webb Nicholls in Powhatan, VA. A veteran of WWII, Charles served as Sergeant in the US Army Air Corp primarily in the South Pacific.
He retired as Captain of VA State Police after serving 32 years. He also served on many committees within the Culpeper United Methodist Church; Pastor-Parish, Chairman of Church Council, Communion Steward with wife, Edna Earle. He was active in the United Methodist Men and was the recipient of the Lifetime Membership Award.
Surviving Charles is his wife of 64 years, Edna Earle of Culpeper, children; Cathy Tuttle and her husband Don of Yorba Linda, CA, Shane Nicholls and his wife Jodie of Culpeper, grandchildren; Matthew Mercer of Los Angeles, CA, Lori Camden and her husband Johnny of Rock Hill, SC, Allen Nicholls and his wife Erin of Duncan, SC, Rebecca Nicholls of Culpeper, three great-grandchildren; Justin Camden, Aidyn Nicholls and Allison Nicholls, siblings; Roy Nicholls, Nancy Alexander, Mary Ann Hubbard, all of Powhatan and Jane Jones of South Boston.
Funeral services will be held at Culpeper United Methodist Church Friday, February 22, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Randy Orndorff officiating. Interment will follow in the Culpeper National Cemetery, new grounds, with honors provided by the VA State Police Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Culpeper UMC Memorial Fund, 1233 Oaklawn Drive, Culpeper, VA 22701.
