Helen Mattson

Helen Mattson, 85, contentedly departed this earth into the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, May 31, 2019. From January until May, Helen was lovingly cared for at Shenandoah Senior Living in Front Royal Virginia, where she passed on peacefully in the presence of her son, Roy, and his wife, Tammy. Helen was born September 30, 1933 in Sandefjord, Norway to Halvor and Olga Holtskog. Her husband of 58 years, Daniel Mattson, preceded her to heaven in January, 2012. Helen is survived by her three sons, Roy, Glenn, and Bruce and their families, including 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, as well as an “adopted” son, Dan Taylor. Helen and Dan considered Colorado home; they loved the mountains and lived in Colorado Springs nearly 50 years. Helen led a fulfilling life as a mother, sister, wife, and friend. She loved knitting, reading, playing numerous games, serving at 1st Presbyterian Church, and was the consummate hostess. Helen was a charter member of the Colorado Springs Sons of Norway, but was also very proud to be an American. Helen’s home always attracted company; she made great meals, encouraged games, and supplied wonderful Norwegian coffee cake and cinnamon rolls. She loved teaching preschool and her investment in the lives of family, friends, and children is an eternal legacy. Her family and friends will celebrate her life at 1st Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 1:00 P.M.
