Obituary of James Walker Bowen
James Walker Bowen, 89, of Falls Church, VA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 9, 2018. He passed away peacefully, at home, with his loving family by his side. James was born on November 18, 1928 in Culpeper, VA to the late Eugene and Mary Bowen. He served as a Private in the U.S. Army for 2 years, during the Korean War; spending time at Fort Bragg and in Japan. James was an expert printer for over 52 years, working on such notable projects as the National Geographic magazine. James was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who always put his family first in everything. He was an avid outdoorsmen, gardener, and reader. James truly loved being outdoors and enjoying nature. He loved spending time at his farm caring for his vegetable and flower gardens, and working on his tractors. He loved to fish and deer hunt – a love he passed to his son, grandsons, and great-grandsons. He was also an avid reader who especially enjoyed his daily newspaper. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Gladys Bowen; daughters Linda Bowen, Beverly Wade, and Tammie Bowen; and daughter-in-law Sandy Bowen. Also surviving are five grandchildren Laura DiFranco, Chris Wade and Matt Wade, Jimmy Bowen and Kyle Bowen; and five great-grandchildren Tyler DiFranco, Aaron DiFranco, Peyton Wade, Kendall Wade and Reagan Wade; and sister Nancy Franklin. He is preceded in death by his son, Gary Bowen. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.at Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Clore-English Funeral Home Friday, March 16, 2018 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Culpeper, VA.
