

Maury W. Fincham, Jr., 74, of Culpeper, began his heavenly journey on Thursday, June 11, after bravely battling cancer and vascular disease. He died peacefully in the palliative care unit of the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
Born in Culpeper on December 20, 1940, Maury was the only child of Idella West Fincham (Silva) and Maury W. Fincham. He was a 1959 graduate of Culpeper High School.
Leaving his hometown to attend Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Maury became a proud member of the school’s cadet corps and where he met his beloved Beulah, his wife of more than 51 years.
Upon graduation, he accepted a commission with the United States Army Reserves in which he served more than 20 years, including valiantly serving two tours of duty in Vietnam and was awarded five Bronze Star Medals.
His service allowed his family to live and travel throughout the nation and to Germany where he earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Boston University. Maury proudly retired from the U.S. Army at the rank of Lt. Colonel.
Maury was later employed by J & J Truck Bodies (Somerset, PA) as a Sales Manager overseeing sales in a seven state region. Upon his retirement, he and his wife returned to Culpeper where he served as Commander to Culpeper VFW Post 2524. Maury delighted in his passion for Corvettes becoming an active member of the Culpeper Corvette Club, catching up with classmates, and spending as much time as he could with his children and two granddaughters.
In addition to his wife, Beulah, he will be missed and remain forever in the hearts of his friends and family including his daughter, Karen (Pennsylvania), son Andrew (Pennsylvania), his two granddaughters- Sunny and Jetty, his sister Alice Fincham Gott (Richmond), brother Marshall Fincham (Richmond), uncle Colonel Jack E. Fincham (West Virginia), and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Hwy, Culpeper, with visitation from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Full military honors will be observed during the service to be officiated by Rev. Jeff Tucker. Interment will follow immediately and will be private.
