Rawley T. Coleman

Rawley Thomas Coleman, Sr, age 95, of Culpeper, VA passed away Friday, March 15, 2013, at the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community. Mr.Coleman was born September 19, 1917 to Ballard Comer Coleman and Rosa Robertson Coleman in Mount Cross, Virginia. He was manager of the Leggett's Department store in downtown Culpeper from 1949 to his retirement in 1984. He began his career at the Leggett store in Danville in 1934 before moving to Culpeper in 1946. He served in the 409th Infantry, Company H in the European Theater during World War II.

Moving to Culpeper, Mr. Coleman was involved with a number of civic organizations. He was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, County Chamber of Commerce, Culpeper Retail Merchants Associates, Culpeper Parking Authority, Culpeper Jaycees, Host Lions Club, Charter Member of Culpeper Country Club, Past Worshipful Master of the Fairfax Masonic Lodge. He was an active member of Culpeper Baptist Church, serving as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Choir member, and traveled

on a number of mission trips.

He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Marjorie Davis Coleman, and a daughter, Karen Coleman Conner. He leaves surviving him a daughter Peggy Triplett, and her husband, Don; Cathy Cornwell and her husband, George; Rawley Thomas "Tom" Coleman, Jr. and his wife, Karen. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Mike Triplett, Chris Conner, Ryan Conner, Michael Conner, Kelly Fox, Adam Stunkle, Britni Coleman, Briana Coleman, and Courtney Wynn and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Coleman will be Wednesday, March 20, 1913, at 11:00 am at Culpeper Baptist Church with internment to follow at the Culpeper Masonic Cemetery. There will be an extended time of fellowship to follow interment back at the church.
