

Richard Lloyd Hensley, 93, passed away December 27th in the warmth and comfort of his home with his wife and daughter by his side. He left this world secure in the love of his saviour. Dick was the son of Thomas S. and Lillie Baker Hensley. He was one of eight siblings; Olive Sauter (Cal); Thomas S. Hensley (Goldie); Carrie Johnston (Doc); Frank Hensley (Marilyn); Frances Bunch (Bragdon) and Ruby Hensley.
He lost his mother when he was eleven. Mr. and Mrs. John Davies took him under their wings. He received life lessons and a strong work ethic under their guidance and support. He and his first wife, Jean Utz, adopted two daughters, Valorie Katherine and Christy Jean.
He managed Glen’s Fair Price Store on East Davis Street. After serving in the U.S. ARMY during the Korean conflict, attaining the rank of Corporal, he continued his retail career with Leggett Dept, store in Culpeper. His passion was buying and selling antiques. After retiring from Leggett department Store in Culpeper he continued his interest in antiquing and at one time operated the This and That shop.
He and Terry Gail Smith were married on September 11, 1975. They celebrated their 50TH anniversary at Dogwood Village while Dick underwent rehabilitation after several falls-quite a unique and memorable event!
Dick is survived by his wife, Terry; daughter Christy; Granddaughter Melissa Adams (David); Great-grandson Ethan Adams; Marilyn Hensley; Goldie Hensley; Nephews Vernon Bunch (Jane); Tom Hensley (Susan); Frank Hensley (Karen), Nieces Patti Jenkins (Ricky); Dena Pelter (Keith); Alex Lassell (Maddie); Brother- in-law Roger Smith (Sharon); Sister- in-law Deborah Wildsmith (Andrew); Theresa Lassell. He is also survived by his loved great-nieces and nephews.
Dick was predeceased by his parents; all his brothers and sisters; his first wife Jean; daughter Kathy; Granddaughter Valorie; Mother-in-law Alice Smith; and beloved niece Sue B. Jenkins.

Loving care and concern was extended by his long-time family physician, Randolph Merrick.
Hospice of the Piedmont provided care and comfort the last week of his life.
Graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Thursday January 8, 2026 at 11am.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
