Obituary of Robert Thomas Hayes
Robert T. Hayes of Culpeper, VA died on February 18, 2019 at Prince William Hospital. Robert Thomas Hayes was born in St Louis, Missouri on March 15, 1947 to Ignatius and Lorraine Hayes. He was the youngest male child of 8 children. Bob was always outside as a kid and loved playing sports. You could usually find him with his brothers Joe and Jim. Bob entered the Air Force out of high school and served his country faithfully for 20 years. He said his proudest moments were when he worked Presidential Communications out of Andrews AFB. While there he did communications for Presidents Ford, Nixon and Carter and worked the flight where President Nixon resigned his post. He also had the honor of being chosen by NASA to do the communication for Skylab I and II from Guam. While in Germany in the mid 70’s he was helping with communication for the extraction of our valiant hostages in Iran. After retiring from the Air Force in 1987, he wasn’t through serving his country. He worked as a civilian communicator for the government. He served in the local Virginia area for19 years before retiring a second time. Bob’s main passion was his family. He would rather spend time with his wife and children then do anything else. He loved playing cards and in his younger days played basketball and ping pong with whoever would take him on. Bob was a deeply Spiritual man and loved his lord with his whole heart. He was active in the church taking people to doctors appointments and caring for shut ins. He loved singing and would be delighted when people came and shared in song. In the last few years of his life, he suffered in chronic pain from a body and heart that was wearing out. He became more aware of the needs of the handicapped and those who lovingly cared for them. His thoughts were always how to care for others to his dying day. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie, and his five children and ten grandchildren who have honored him by their lives. Services will be held on at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Culpeper Christian Fellowship, 15460, Bradford Road with a Fellowship to follow. Bob, you will be missed but always in our hearts.
