Robert Walter "Dickie" Thomas Sr.

Robert Walter “Dickie” Thomas, Sr., 72, of Culpeper, VA, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2020 at the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. Born February 23, 1947 to David Walker Thomas and Mary Etta Shifflett Thomas, Dickie was a man who loved life. He worked for 55 years for Tyco-Rochester Corporation; he loved softball, his family and coaching from the sofa when his favorite teams, the Redskins and the Yankees, were playing. Surviving Dickie is his wife, Mary Lee Thomas; children, Dickie Thomas, Jr. and his wife Lori, Greg Thomas and his wife Amy, Denise Sutphin and her husband Wayne; grandchildren, Travis Thomas, Taylor Thomas, Daykota Thomas, Ryleigh Thomas, Lauren Thomas, Brandon Thomas, Laci Thomas, Tyler Dorsey, Bryant Thomas, Graydon Thomas, Ashleigh Sutphin, Chris Sutphin; eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family members. In addition to his parents, siblings Virginia Shelton, Ellen Taylor, Ruby Bean, Alice Howarth, Tommy Thomas, Delma Thomas and grandson Joshua Thomas precede Dickie in death. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 15, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 16, 2020 in the chapel of Clore-English Funeral Home with Pastor Arthur Greene, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers are Jerry Compton, Chris Sutphin, Wayne Sutphin, Brandon Thomas, Taylor Thomas and Travis Thomas.
