Jonathan Fragoso, known by many as Johnny Bear, had a heart as big as the ocean; he loved his Santa Monica and his Santa Monica loved him. He was the life of the party and had colorful true stories that left you amazed or laughing so hard that your stomach hurt. He had this magnetic attraction that made you want to be around him. He was a great athlete and incredibly brilliant. He shared his experiences and insights on the world, exposing one to topics like racial discrimination, inequities, and social framing of events before they actually occurred. He was genuine, unique, loyal, and told you the truth whether you wanted to hear it or not. He was fearless and feared, much loved and respected. He touched many generations. He was a brother to those needing a brother, a defender of the unprotected, and a support to our Latino community. He had friends from all walks of life and was there if you needed him. He shaped many lives, he led with courage, and was a man of steel. In his final years, he sought God, did his best to bless those around him and prayed for peace in his world.
His passing leaves a big hole in our hearts. He will be greatly missed.
