OBITUARY

Marilu Greene

17 February, 1958 – 10 September, 2024
IN THE CARE OF

Gates, Kingsley & Gates Smith Salsbury Funeral Directors

Marilu (Van Geelkerken) Greene left this life to be with her Lord Jesus, on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, in Thousand Oaks, California. She was born in Apple Valley, California, to Bette and Jan Van Geelkeren. She attended schools in Apple Valley, Reseda and Canoga Park, and graduated from Canoga Park High School in 1976 as the student body president. Soon after she graduated high school, she began attending Pierce College, with a major in journalism. While attending college, she met and married Bruce Paul Greene III, but unfortunately was later divorced. Marilu began working when she was 16 years old and never stopped until she retired from Casa Dorinda, in Monticeto, California, in February 2022. She had her mother’s work ethic of never stop working and to always put your best into everything you do. She loved helping people achieve their fitness goals, being an honest realtor and always having a smile and a laugh to cheer you up. She loved watching sporting events and secretly wished she would be a sporting announcer one day. To others she was spunky, smart, strong, approachable, and high-spirited. She had a memory like a steel trap. She had a fantastic sense of humor and a quick wit. Nothing was more important to Marilu than her family, they were her entire world. Marilu was an amazing mother and grandmother. She loved to walk on the beach each day and collect beautiful shells.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jan and Bette Van Geelkerken. She is survived by her son Bruce Greene IV; daughter-in-law Autumn Greene; granddaughter Elara Greene; sisters, Jean Durbin and Marie Luskleet; brother Vern Pruett and much loved cousins, nieces and nephews. She was also dearly loved by her many friends.

A celebration of life will be at Goleta State Beach (date and time). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to; Samaritans Purse International Relief, Samaritanspurse.org; Girls on the Run, girlsontherun.org; and Montecito Family YMCA, ciymca.org.
