Serita Guillory Moore, a native of Church Point, Louisiana, entered the gates of heaven on December 12, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Obelia Guillory, and four brothers, Leroy, Welton, Thomas, and Wilbert.
As a young girl, the beloved “Se’ret,” a nickname bestowed upon her by her family, was patient, caring, helpful, independent, and graceful, attributes which she maintained throughout her life. After graduating from Holy Ghost High School in Opelousas, Louisiana, Serita briefly attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and later decided to pursue her career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
In June 1956, Serita married John Merrick Thibodeaux in Charles Point, Louisiana. Together they had three children, Brenda Thibodeaux Harris, Pamyla Burris, and Kenneth Thibodeaux. Tragically, Serita became a young widow in 1967. Four years later, she packed her belongings and moved to Los Angeles, California, and raised her three children.
Serita married Joy Edward Moore in 1982. They were married eight years prior to his passing away, leaving her widowed a second time.
Serita worked for 37 years at Kaiser Permanente in West Los Angeles before retiring in 1998. After retiring, she moved to Canyon Lake, California, where she continued to enjoy an exciting, multifaceted lifestyle. Clearly, Serita never sat still as evidenced by her eagerness to try new things and her many hobbies, which included travel, line dancing, bowling, gardening, water aerobics, chair volleyball, bunco, and membership in the Rose Society. She was also a faithful servant to St. Vincent’s Catholic Church and actively involved in the Knights of St. Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary. She was committed to giving communion and conducting blood-pressure checks for the elderly and infirmed.
Serita nurtured her creole culture by attending zydeco dances and frequently visiting Southwest Louisiana and speaking the creole language when she had the opportunity.
Serita lived a humble, resilient life, and continually expressed deep gratitude. Her pride and joy was her family. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter unconditionally. Her many relationships and friendships were lifelong as she consistently blessed others with her warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit.
Serita’s memory and rich legacy will always be cherished by her brother, Nalva Guillory (Geraldine), sister, Annabelle Biagas, children, Brenda Thibodeaux Harris, Pamyla Burris (Lonnie), Kenneth Thibodeaux, grandchildren, Raymond, Shannon, Aaric, Alyssa, Caitlin, Aaron, Kaylee, Ryan, great granddaughter, Myleah, and a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who loved and adored her.
Arrangements under the direction of Holy Cross Mortuary, Culver City, CA.
