Albert Robbins emigrated with his family to Quebec City in 1949 after World War II. He was born in Lodz, Poland in December of 1927 and was driven from his home by the Russians during the war. He was sent to a Siberian labor camp during the war at the age of 12 and remained until the war was over. In 1962 he moved his family to Odessa, Texas to his help Uncle Joe in a retail fabric business. After five years he moved his family to Dallas and in 1969 founded Haber Fabrics in Irving. Over the years, the company grew from a single retail store to one of the largest textile distribution companies in the United States with sales worldwide. The company was sold in 2006. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Irene Robbins; children, Larry Robbins (Stacey), Karen Knobler (Rick), and Steve Robbins; grandchildren, Lauren, Mitchell and Noah. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Northwest Highway Chapel with committal to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
