IN THE CARE OF

Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home & Hillcrest Mausoleum & Memorial Park

In Loving Memory

Alex Perez, age 44, of Dallas, Texas, entered eternal rest on December 8, 2025. All who knew him had a fondness for his thoughtfulness, humor, kindness, and a deep faith in God. Alex’s family, choice family, friends, and faith community deeply loved him, and will miss his light and presence.

Alex shared a special partnership with his wife, Leslie, rooted in love, genuine care and concern for one another and a union grounded in Christ. Their life together was rich as a result of special connections with choice family, friends, home group, family, and those in need. Through service, hospitality, laughter, and travel, their life together was full of many meaningful and lasting memories that will be cherished by Leslie every day.

Alex showed his love through his presence, loyalty, dependability, and quiet strength. When he chose to share, there was a profoundness in his words and a deep admiration for the Lord. One of Alex’s greatest joys was investing in the lives of young people at church and those who fondly knew him as Uncle Alex. His impact and legacy will be remembered and carried on through their lives.

Alex will be dearly missed by his mother, Magdalene; his sister, Magdalene; his nephew, Sean; his mother-in-law, Phyllis and her husband, Dodd; his father-in-law, Bill and his wife, Debbie. Throughout the years, Alex spent many special moments with each of them from playing board games to camping trips, to hikes, to traveling the world. The adventures were plenty and always intentional. Those will be the special memories that will be held closely by each of them.

Alex and Leslie were blessed beyond measure by a vast network of choice family. He deeply cherished and delighted in being a brother to so many, but his greatest joy was being Uncle Alex. From playing board games, reading books or making up his own stories, bike riding, camping trips, hikes, magic tricks, a weird thumb trick, VR headsets, listening to Weird Al, tickles, cuddles and so much more, he loved investing in Sean and his many choice nieces and nephews. Uncle Alex will be greatly missed by each of them.

Whether it was SMU athletics, cycling, board games, camping, hiking, skiing or traveling, Alex gained great joy from the many hobbies that he delighted in. During football or basketball season, you knew that you could find him at Ford Stadium or Moody Coliseum, as he attempted to never miss a game, unless Leslie thwarted that plan. Once Alex became interested in something, he was determined to learn everything about it and would become excellent at it. This was demonstrated in cycling by Judgement Day, his extreme bike rally he did every year; in board games by his extensive collection; in camping and hiking by all of his gear so he was prepared for anything; and skiing that he became so skilled at so quickly even beating Leslie down a black. Alex’s life was truly full of so many joyous adventures and experiences.

One of Alex’s other joys was the science behind baking and cooking. He was known for his homemade pumpkin cheesecakes, famous eggnog, legendary lasagna, smokiest BBQ, and anything sous vide. His thoughtfulness was demonstrated most often through his baking and cooking. He delighted in seeing others enjoying one of his creations. He adored watching America’s Test Kitchen and then trying out the recipes. Since he became excellent at whatever he had an interest in, he was a phenomenal baker and chef. His culinary skills will be missed by so many but mostly Leslie, who benefitted greatly by his passion for the science of cooking.

As a man of faith, Alex lived with humility, compassion, and steadfastness. His faith guided his life giving him a deep desire to serve others and show up selflessly. Though his passing leaves a profound emptiness, those who knew and loved him find comfort in knowing he is now in the presence of the Lord.

Alex will be remembered for his thoughtfulness, humor, generosity, and kindness. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
