Amelia was born to Karl and Angela Favre in Dallas on September 19, 1917. Her mother died in 1922. After a time in a local orphanage, her father remarried her mother’s best friend, Martha Scheel who arrived by train in Dallas on February 14, 1923 and Karl, Martha, Lillian and Amelia immediately walked to the courthouse for the marriage ceremony and Martha became her new mother. Amelia’s family was a member of the East Dallas Christian Church, and in fact her father was custodian during prohibition. Amelia attended Crockett Elementary and graduated from Dallas Technical HS in 1935. Amelia was employed at Sears and IBM and the City of Midland, but her real endeavor was spending her time, talents and gifts with her family, church and community in every season of her life. She married Travis Plexico in 1939. Travis’ 40 year career with Magnolia and Mobil Oil took them to live in Midland and Houston, and after his retirement they settled in Duncanville, TX. Though Travis’ work took him around the state, in their leisure time they travelled extensively. One of Amelia’s favorite places to travel was visiting her extended family in Germany. Amelia was a very active member and elder of the East Dallas Christian Church and the Sanders Sunday School Class. Sundays she was always early so that she could greet the children as they arrived and they loved her dearly. Amelia also enjoyed years of being active in the Oak Cliff Women’s Club. Amelia’s ever present smile, quick wit and servant like attitude touched and influenced countless lives during her 97 years. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. The Celebration of Life Service will be at the Grace Presbyterian Village Chapel, 550 E. Ann Arbor, Dallas, TX at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 14, 2015 Internment at DFW National Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers: Carl P. Favre, Christopher Favre, Nicholas Favre, Tommy Glenn Baugh, Mitch Baugh and Richard Lamb. The family would like to thank all those who visited Amelia at Grace Presbyterian Village for the last several years, especially her lifelong friend, Katy Pipes, and special friend Peggy McCurdy and members of the Sanders Sunday School Class for their prayers, cards and visitations. The family also thanks the staff and residents at GPV for the loving care and compassion extended to Amelia while she lived there.
