Angelita M. O’Brien, aged 95, of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 25, 2022. She was born on April 21, 1927, in the city of Elmo, Kaufman County, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Enrique G. O’Brien; her parents, Jose and Louisia Martel; her sons, John Jr. and Larry Alejos, 5 brothers and 7 sisters.
Angelita is survived by her son, Fred Alejos, Sr. (Sylvia); her daughters, Margaret Tobias (Carlos) and Mary Paredes (Jesse); 1 half sister Zenaida Ortega, 14 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and 37 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death is her grandson, Michael Anthony Alejos.
Since her childhood in Dallas’s historic Little Mexico, Angelita was a stranger to no one and thrived in being an active member of her community. She graciously volunteered at local hospitals such as St. Paul’s and other catholic charities over the course of her many years. Angelita was always willing to participate in church fundraisers and bingo nights. A woman of strong family values, Angelita enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her beloved family. Whether it was making tamales and enchiladas with her granddaughters or having café con pan with her grandsons, on a Sunday before a Cowboys game, Angelita cherished family time. At numerous family events, Angelita was the life of the party and always ready to dance. She enjoyed celebrating life with her family. One of her greatest joys was to be at her great grandchildren’s sporting events. Be it a little league, high school, or collegiate game, she was there; and win or lose, nothing lit up the faces of her great grands more than receiving one of her big hugs after a game.
We take comfort in her deep love for us all and know that Angelita is now at peace surrounded by light.
