

Angelo Athas was born in Dallas, Texas, October 4, 1925; his parents were Pete S. & Aglaia Dinos Athas; Angelo passed away Thursday August 2, 2012 in a Mesquite, Texas, hospital. He was preceded in death by wife Anastasie Z. Athas May 4, 1993 & his brothers, Sam Athas, Nick Athas and Bill Athas. Angelo competed ten years in the Golden Age Games for the Blind & Disabled Veterans, bringing home gold, silver & bronze medals every year in a variety of events, including javelin and discus throw. He was a 3rd degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He loved his Catholic Faith, his family, dancing & dominoes. During WWII, he was in the European Theatre participating in the Battle of the Bulge, receiving numerous awards including 3 Bronze Medals & a Purple Heart; After spending over 30 years at the U.S. Post Office, Angelo retired in 1980, & took up personnel management for M-12, a styling products company, for 12 years. He sold R.V.O.S Insurance & was an active member of SPJST, KJT, & WFLA Czech Fraternal Organizations. Survivors are daughter Sherri Williams, son-in-law Kim of Mesquite, grandchildren Jeremy Williams & Tanya Williams with great-granddaughter Athena of Plano, and Angela Williams of Plano; sons Thomas Athas, daughter-in-law Linda, granddaughter Rachel of Grapevine, Paul Athas & Jennifer Harris, grandsons Nathan & Austin of Dallas, John Athas, daughter-in-law RoseMarie, grandchildren Vincent , Sophie, Luke, Chloe, Joseph, Mary, Elizabeth and Veronica Athas of Garland; two sisters Catheryne Angel & Angeline Psalidas. Recitation of the Rosary 7:00 pm, Monday, 8/6/12 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 950 Trails Parkway, Garland, Texas. Rev. Joseph A. Mehan Jr., Celebrant. Entombment Sacred Heart Mausoleum, Rowlett, Texas. Military honors by U.S. Army, Fort Hood Honor Guard .
