Anthony Gerard (Jerry) Vara

Jerry was born in Dallas, Texas on October 3,1958 to Rudolph and Epifania Vara. He attended Emma’s Education Center for the last 10 years. He enjoyed family get-togethers, his “Batman” birthday parties, bowling, making others laugh, and EEC activities including camping, field trips, visiting the horse stables and being around his friends. Until his dementia diagnosis, Jerry was also actively involved in volunteering at the horse stables, animal shelter and other local organizations.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents and brother Joseph Vara.

Jerry is survived by his sisters: Gloria (Vara) Stuart (Ron), Theresa (Vara) Devine, and Anna (Vara) Velez. Sister-in-law Mary Perez. Nieces: Alison (Chris), Bria (Dhiren), Marissa (Will), Monica (Nestor), Brittany (Sabrina), Liz (Willie). Nephews: Michael (Alisah), Jayson (Courtney), Randy (Leanna), Albert, Maurice (Betty). Grandnieces: Kylie, Sophia, Alyssa (Sweets), Trinity, Naya, Kyra and Reyna. Grandnephews, Isaiah, Dominic, Tristan, Luka, and Jaxson.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at Calvary Hill beginning at 4 PM, with the rosary starting at 6:30 PM. Mass of Christian burial will be held at Calvary Hill Main Mausoleum North Chapel at 11 AM on Friday, October 31, 2025. The committal will follow the mass at Calvary Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Martinez, Jayson Vara, Tito (Randy McClung), Isaiah Davila, William Cervenka, Alisah Simitci, and Nestor Leon. Honorary pallbearers will be Jaxson McClung, Ron Stuart, Marco Rodriguez, Toney Benson, and R. “Sweets” Flores.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jerry’s memory may be made to Emma’s Education Center, 5222 Woodmeadow Drive, Garland TX 75043, https://emmacenter.com, where an outdoor rock fountain and benches will be erected in his honor.
