Autumn D’Lisa Church was born April 14, 1932 to Dudley and Helen Burch in Dallas, Texas. She passed peacefully in her sleep on July 10, 2023. She is survived by sons Davin and his wife Genny, Derek and wife Mandi, Daynon Church, daughters Tambi Johnson and DeInda Davis and husband Tracy, as well as grandchildren Aranda Johnson, Anthony Dean, Madison and Dylan Church, along with 13 additional grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews. Autumn was preceded in death by beloved husband Robert Church and her siblings Barry Burch and Sherry Smyth, her son-in-law Johnny Johnson, grandson Rick Johnson, and parents Dudley and Helen Burch.
Autumn earned a Master’s Degree in childhood education, and taught for 53 years in public and private schools. She loved tutoring both children and adult students. Her favorite was first grade. Her family remembers many times an adult would approach her and recognize her as their teacher from years ago. She made lasting impressions on countless young people.
She liked word puzzles, clever puns, and “Wheel of Fortune”. Even at the end, Autumn never lost her wit and quick mind. She enjoyed music, especially hymns and anything by Elvis, as well as playing the piano and leading her kids in Broadway tunes and other favorites.
In 1955, Autumn met Bob in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. They married in March of 1956, and they raised their family in several states, Texas, California, and Missouri. They came home to the Dallas area in 1964, where they spent the rest of their lives. She was a member of several Church of Christ ministries, but called Buckingham Road Church of Christ home for almost 40 years. She began worshipping online when she could no longer travel on Sundays and continued to worship throughout her final illness. Her faith and love of her heavenly Father was a beacon to all who knew her.
She loved her family with all her heart and delighted in hearing about the exploits of her grandchildren and extended family. She was very proud of them and bragged about every success.
Autumn was polite and kind to all. She prayed constantly for others. Though painfully shy, if she gave her friendship, it was sincere and enduring.
She loved animals - ducks, farm animals, polar bears, hummingbirds, and especially the squirrels who hung around her home waiting for the nuts she happily provided. Autumn loved nature, photography, and all types of art. Her love of travel took her to Russia on multiple missionary trips, Ireland, England, Switzerland, France, Germany, and all over the United States.
Autumn was a bright and caring person, to her last days. She lived a full life to the age of 91, and will be greatly missed by all for her tenacious and vibrant outlook on life.
