Barron Ulmer Kidd died January 2, 2025, at home in Dallas surrounded by family. He was 88 years old. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dedo du Pont Kidd, the guiding force in his life.
Born in Midland, Texas to Helen Margaret Ulmer Kidd and Riley Barron Kidd and raised in Dallas, Texas, he attended St. Mark’s School of Texas, Phillips Andover Academy (1954), and The University of Texas at Austin (1958). Upon graduation he served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Hornet, before returning to Dallas to enter the oil business with his father.
Barron spent his life loving Dedo. She was the joy and the light of his every day. They met as children, married in 1963, and spent the next 57 years together. His devotion was a testament to both his character and hers.
Barron’s business was oil and gas, but his mission was bringing friends and family together. He and Dedo would bring large groups together and take them on journeys they would always remember. Whether it was a party on a Saturday night, a birthday, a holiday, or a long vacation, people always remembered “that time” in Dallas, Wilmington, San Francisco, Napa, New York, Fishers Island, Bozeman, Vail, Paris, the Loire Valley, Copenhagen, Wengen, the Big Bend, or the ranch in Waxahachie. You remember.
He is survived by his four children, Liete Kidd Eichorn (Mark), Barron du Pont Kidd, LeDée Kidd Sachs (Bill), Ellet Kidd Veale (Geoff); ten grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Barron’s gentle nature, laughing stories, and inherent sweetness will be remembered by all who loved him.
The family would like to thank Cindy Pearce, Alena Clark, Martha Alejo for their care and dedication.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the University of Texas at Austin, Friends of the Katy Trail, or the Dallas Museum of Art.
