

Bessie Ruth Levenson, 94, of Dallas, TX passed away Friday, May 17, 2013 from heart failure. Bessie was born March 29, 1919 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Max and Bertha Silver. She attended Eastern High school in Baltimore, MD. She graduated 2 years early at the age of 16. Bessie married Dr. Albert Katz of Baltimore, MD in 1942. Albert passed away in 1967. She married Sydney Levenson of Baltimore, MD in 1970, whom also preceded her in death. She lived in different cities including; Baltimore, MD, Franklin, PA, Johnston, PA, San Diego, CA and Dallas, TX. Bessie owned a knit shop in Baltimore with her sister, Hilda, for 20 years. She could write a pattern for dresses and sweaters just by looking at them in vogue. Bessie loved to knit and crochet, play Gin and Solitaire and crossword puzzles. Bessie was preceded in death by her siblings; Harriet Stern, Leona Davis and Hilda Buchman. Bessie is survived by her son Dr. Gerald Katz and wife Marlene of Newton, MA, daughter Janice Sindler of Dallas, TX, granddaughter Kelly Fleming and husband Colter of Dallas, TX, grandson Michael Katz and wife Allison of Shore Hills, NJ, granddaughter Alicia Shems and husband Nessy of Newton, MA, granddaughter Elizabeth Katz of Shore Hills, NJ, great grandson Matthew Shems of Newton, MA, great granddaughter Lauren Katz of Shore Hills, NJ, great granddaughter Leah Shems of Newton, MA, great granddaughter Julie Katz of Shore Hills, NJ, great grandson Johnathan Rudolph of Newton, MA, sister Estelle Balachow and husband David of Baltimore, MD, brother David Silver and wife Gertrude of Baltimore, MD, good friend Patricia Fullet of Pittsburgh, PA and her pet dog Bailey Sindler of Dallas, TX. Bessie was a strong and classy woman, an incredible and loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Wife. Her witty sense of humor always made everyone smile. Graveside services will be held Monday, May 20, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Rabbi Jeffrey Leynor officiating. Pallbearers will be Dr. Gerald Katz, Colter Fleming, Michael Matthews, Michael Steinhardt, Nick Camp and Terry Miller. All are invited to her daughters home following the service for a reception.
