Betty Jean Avant passed away at her home November 2, 2011. She was born in Winnsboro, Texas, November 8, 1941, to QB Bowden and Ora Ann Meek. She graduated from Northern Louisiana State University and was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She taught school in Monroe, LA, Mobile, AL, and retired from DISD in 1993. Betty married Glynn Elliott Avant in Mobile, AL, in 1978. She is survived by her husband, Glynn Avant of Dallas, her son, Michael Ray Morris of Dripping Springs, TX, three grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, November 6 at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, where she will be interred at 3:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 7, at Wilshire Baptist Church, 4316 Abrams Road, Dallas, where she was a member. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Early Childhood Development.
The family has asked in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Ministry at Wilshire Baptist Church, 4136 Abrams Road, Dallas, Texas, 75214.
